Mission Statement 2014
Our results are better than average, with regular medals at regional level. TFS focuses on the overall needs of its students, not just fencing : our students help each other; our coaches encourage fencers to gain as much combat experience as possible with other clubs in their school for example, (subject to a chat with our coaches to agree goals) in 5 years we aim to achieve similar results at national level.
Mission Statement 2019
We have not achieved our 2014 goal of national medal, not withstanding team events - Results trajectory is slightly improved i.e. regular medal regional and local and top third results in national champs. This has led to national squad selections throughout period and top ten rankings. Depth in the U.17 category is now established & our 'platform' is much improved in this section. Fallback 2021 mission is to consistently achieve L8 / medal zone at national events (all age categories) - and this will be in line with our 2028 ( PROJECT28 ) goal of world championships & Olympic selection in seniors.
Operationally, since our last mission statement 2014 the club has trebled in size; the sponsored community project has very successfully established enablement for local state schools; 3 international calibre coaches are on staff; & we've use of 12 piste new sports hall. Network and collaborative activities with other clubs, training camp providers and British Fencing are firming. The club sustains ongoing non for profit viability which enables excellent service & support (staffing / facilities / bursary / equipment & logistics).
Mission Statement 2024
Depth in U.17 has at least doubled (8 projected for U.17 national squads 25/26) with trajectory contiguous (U.20 GB squad 26/27). This year the fencers enjoyed regular national level medals in U.12-14 categories with 3 fencers in Cadet Squad GB 24/25, and 1 representing SWE, (2 of which made top 4 of national ranking and thus the first Battersea fencers to be selected for the European Championships 2025). There were also some 6 selection at younger U.14 for national squad indicating strong follow through PROJECT2028.
Initiatives over period include S&C programme, coach Ed for our older students and an Athlete Mentor programme for those on GB pathways with BritishFencing. The new coaching team is particularly optimal with significant international outreach.
The club now fields 20% of total fencers in each age category of the U.12-17 pathway (women's foil), with 3 yr goal to develop also in men's foil.
We have not achieved our 2019 Mission statement of regular U.20 / senior national level medals, with only some L16 being our best in those categories, mainly due to demographic (leavers to university etc.) which impacts depth. We've this year started 'open door' initiatives for collaborative sparring especially for cadet, senior and U.20 fencers & UNI project. PROJECT28 goal for Olympic selection IS DEFERRED TO 2032. (interim goal 2028: selection for Senior World Championships)
